A Tale of Two Palms

They met as the sun was rising
into a blue Florida sky their attraction was no denying,
Their leaves swayed gently in the wind
to the beauty of the moment they were very akin,
Lovely the sun was as she set the ocean ablaze
colors from a Crayola box spilled onto the water's waves,
The palm tress took to this most panoramic view
for every day was a set of different skies and hues,
What a lucky pair many said as they walked on by
Seagulls and pelicans continued decorating the sky,
A connection drew them closer each day
as their fronds reached out in the most graceful of ways,
Two palm trees destined to meet
along the sand, the beach and the neighboring street,
Converging into a beautiful frame
a love like this in nature has no name...

Utah...many snowplows ago

I'm a reflective kind of girl, so I love looking back on companies I've worked at, places I've traveled or people I've met. When I worked for the IT company, Metamor Global Solutions, (which then became PSI Net, now Keane or perhaps yet another company once again) as a Marketing Specialist, I had the best female boss ever. The kind that only wanted to see the best come out of you, Diane Smith was great.

I was assigned to do a multi-city road trip and visit all the different offices so as to educate them on the direction of the company and meet the people that had been reading the monthly corporate newsletter I was editor of...yeah, I was thrilled! I also used to write a daily email to the entire company called "Good Day MGS!", it was a blend of company news, birthdays, motivational messages and more. I must tell you that this company was comprised of plenty of Indians as we had three offices in India as well...so it was right up my alley. (I had just finished working for the worst female boss at Toshiba and oddly, her name was Diane too!)

When I arrived into Salt Lake City, Utah, it was so beautiful...snow-capped mountains and amazing miles of unspoiled land. Since I had the whole day until the presentation, I got a cab from the hotel. I told the driver I only had $45 and wanted to know where he could take me that was beautiful. At the time, I was taking a photography class, so I thought this would be a great opportunity to capture near and distant shots. I got to see where the Sundance Film Festival took place, he drove me to the Stein Eriksen ski lodge...it was awesome. The clear cold air was crisp and quiet whenever I would roll the window down. Of course, if I were to tell certain people that I hopped into a cab with no idea where I was going in a city I'd never been, I'm sure they would have winced. But I'm so glad I took the risk. Funny thing is, for class, we were assigned to only develop slides, so I never got to see the prints of my trip. Until a few months ago when I was cleaning out a box of old things and found all the slides!

Here are some pics that turned out pretty good considering this was the pre-digital pre-editing age...and I was a student photographer:

Just great...

Yes, my current "hooked on" song by Coldplay...

Lost!
Just because I'm losing
Doesn't mean I'm lost
Doesn't mean I'll stop
Doesn't mean I'm across

Just because I'm hurting
Doesn't mean I'm hurt
Doesn't mean I didn't get what I deserved
No better and no worse

I just got lost!
Every river that I tried to cross
Every door I ever tried was locked
Oh and I'm just waiting til the shine wears off

You might be a big fish
In a little pond
Doesn't mean you've won
'Cause along will come
A bigger one

And you'll be lost!
Every river that you tried to cross
Every gun you ever held went off
Oh and I'm just waiting til the firing's stopped
Oh and I'm just waiting til the shine wears off

Oh and I'm just waiting til the shine wears off
Oh and I'm just waiting til the shine wears off
